Sheffield Wednesday saw plenty of players depart on free transfers this summer, though sanctioned just two loan moves away from the club.

Sheffield Wednesday are now underway in their second Championship campaign since promotion from League One after an impressive late run of form saw them secure survival last term. Led by Danny Rohl, the Owls endured somewhat of a squad overhaul during pre-season in an attempt to make sure that maintaining their second tier status comes much easier this season.

The South Yorkshire outfit have seen a mixed bag of results come their way so far this season, currently sat 15th in the table after three wins, two draws and four defeats from their opening nine fixtures as their new additions slowly begin to bed in.

Amongst those to depart on free transfers were Will Vaulks and and Cameron Dawson who signed for Oxford United and Rotherham United respectively, whilst Bambo Diaby was the only exit to return a fee having been poached by Spanish second division side Elche.

The two players sent out on loan were Malik Wilks, who also joined the Millers, and youngster Bailey Cadamarteri who linked up with fellow third tier outfit Lincoln City.

Sheffield Wednesday supporters will surely be keeping a keen eye on the 19-year-old’s progress this term, so just how has the forward fared since the Imps secured his services?

A steady start

His seven appearances for Lincoln have so far been a fair split between the starting XI and cameos off the bench.

From those seven outings, Cadamarteri has found the net on one occasion in a 2-0 victory away from home against Cambridge United.

The Imps have only lost once in the third tier this season, a game which the Owls prospect did not feature in. With that said, it is safe to say he has had a positive start to life at the LNER Stadium.

Another start could perhaps be on the cards this evening when Michael Skubala’s side travel to face Grimsby Town in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.

Room for improvement

Of course, it is important to remember that Cadamarteri is still learning his trade and that this is the teenager’s first loan spell away from his parent club.

The Sheffield Wednesday youngster initially impressed when first breaking onto the scene, but with competition for places becoming increasingly tougher under Rohl it made sense to seek first team opportunities elsewhere.

Who is the manager of Blackpool?

Lincoln have provided the opportunity for the youngster to flourish, and this campaign could now be crucial for his development.

There is no doubting the bright start he has had to life away from Hillsborough, though the Owls will now be monitoring his progress closely to ensure he develops how they had hoped – upping his return would surely be a massive boost for his chances of a spot in the Wednesday squad next season.
