Huddersfield Town have agreed a deal to sign Freddie Ladapo following his exit from Ipswich Town, according to a report by Football Insider.

Huddersfield Town are poised to snap up the striker on a free transfer to bolster their attacking ranks. They were relegated from the Championship last season along with Birmingham City and Rotherham United.

Ladapo, 31, spent the second-half of the past campaign on loan at Charlton Athletic in League One. He linked up with the Addicks in the last January transfer window and went on to score once in 14 games for the London outfit.

He cut ties with Ipswich Town late last month by mutual consent and has since been weighing up his options in the game as a free agent. In this latest update regarding his situation by Football Insider, he is set to join the Terriers and will undergo a medical with the Yorkshire club.

Ladapo would be an eye-catching signing for Huddersfield Town if they can get a deal over the line.

He will bolster their options at the top end of the pitch and inject some experience into their ranks.

The Londoner was at Colchester United as a youngster but had to drop into non-league before Crystal Palace lured him back up the football pyramid.

He went on to play twice for the Eagles’ first-team and was loaned out to Oldham Athletic and Shrewsbury Town to get some experience under his belt during his time at Selhurst Park.

Ladapo then had permanent spells at Southend United and Plymouth Argyle before Rotherham United snapped him up in 2019.

The forward was a hit during his time with the Millers and scored 41 goals in 123 games in all competitions to earn a switch to Ipswich Town.

He then carried on his form in front of goal for the Tractor Boys and found the net on 25 occasions in 75 outings.

Ladapo’s game time dried up last term as Ipswich Town gained promotion to the top flight, hence why he was shipped out to Charlton Athletic to get some minutes last winter.

What now for ex-Ipswich Town man?

He slipped further down the pecking order at Portman Road after they went up.

The player needs opportunities at this stage of his career and going to Huddersfield Town would be ideal for him.

Ladapo wasn’t able to find his shooting boots earlier this year at Charlton Athletic but Michael Duff will be hoping that he can get the best out of him at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The Terriers are back in action this weekend with an away trip to Bolton Wanderers after losing 2-1 away at Rotherham United last time out.
