Leeds United have joined the race for Aston Villa winger Louie Barry ahead of the January transfer window, according to a report by TEAMtalk.
Leeds United are interested in luring the attacker to Elland Road this winter. The youngster has impressed in League One so far this season at Stockport County but is now attracting attention from higher up the football pyramid.
Barry, 21, spent last season on loan with the Hatters as well as helped them win the League Two title under the guidance of Dave Challinor before returning for a second spell in the summer. He has made 43 appearances in all competitions for the North West outfit to date and has chipped in with 23 goals, 14 of which have come in this campaign.
In this latest update regarding his situation ahead of next month, TEAMtalk claim the Whites are now eyeing up a possible swoop next month. His future at Edgeley Park is up in the air.
Leeds United eye winger
Leeds United could see Barry as someone to bolster their attacking department.
The Whites are sat in 2nd place in the Championship table behind Sheffield United and are aiming for promotion back to the Premier League.
Stockport County will be praying that Aston Villa let him stay put until the end of this term as they look to claw themselves out of the third tier.
He has proved his worth in the third tier though and they may want to test him at a higher level now as the next stage of his development.
The ex-England youth international moved to Villa Park in 2020 following spells at West Brom and Barcelona.
Barry has played once for Aston Villa’s first-team and has also been loaned out in the past to Ipswich Town, Swindon Town, MK Dons and Salford City to get some experience under his belt.
He has really found his feet at Stockport County and has become one of the brightest talents in the Football League.
What now?
Barry would be an exciting coup for Leeds United if they won the race for his signature.
He would give Daniel Farke something different in attack and another dimension on the wing as they look to keep their momentum going.
The Whites won 3-1 at home to Middlesbrough last time out and are back in action this weekend with an away trip to Preston North End.
