Hansson, 26, hasn’t played since October after picking up a muscle injury. He has been on the road to recovery over the past two months and is now back in training with the Blues.

In this update regarding his condition, their boss Chris Davies said last week, as per BirminghamLive: “Emil is training with the team and has been for a week or so. He’s back fit and pretty much available.”

Birmingham City won 2-1 away at fellow third tier side Exeter City in the EFL Trophy last time out. Keshi Anderson and Luke Harris managed to get themselves on the scoresheet against the Grecians.

Getting Hansson back will be a big boost for Birmingham City.

The Blues made him their fourth signing of the summer after their relegation from the Championship and he penned a three-year deal running until June 2027.

Hansson said at the time, as per BBC Sport: “I had a really good talk with Chris Davies and (technical director) Craig Gardner. They told me about the plans this club has, especially for what we want to achieve next season – it was something I could not say no to.”

The former Sweden youth international has made 15 appearances for Birmingham City so far this season, 11 of which have come in the league, and he has scored one goal.

He played 78 matches for his previous club Heracles in Holland and found the net on 21 occasions in 78 outings.

Hansson has also had spells in the past at Kalmar, Brann, Feyenoord, RKC Waalwijk, Hannover and Fortuna Sittard.

What now?

It has been a frustrating start to life at Birmingham City for the player but he is now edging closer to playing again which is good news for all involved.

Davies has a decision to make over the next couple of days about whether to throw him back in.

The Blues are 3rd in the league behind Wycombe Wanderers and Wrexham.
