Exeter City loanee Amani Richards has been recalled by Leicester City, as announced by their official club website.
Exeter City swooped to land the attacker last summer on a temporary basis. ECFC have now seen him return to his parent club, despite the fact he was supposed to spend the whole season with them.
Richards, 20, was given the green light to head out the exit door on loan by Leicester City back in August to get some experience under his belt. He made six appearances in all competitions for the Grecians under Gary Caldwell and chipped in with one goal.
In this latest update regarding his situation with the Devon club this winter, they have confirmed that his deal with them has now been cut short. Their website reads: “Exeter City thanks Amani for his efforts in red and white and wishes him all the best for his future career.”
Exeter City’s Amani Richards returns to Leicester City
Exeter City brought in Richards to bolster their ranks ahead of this campaign.
His time with the Grecians hasn’t quite gone to plan though and Leicester City have a decision to make on what to do with him next.
After signing him, Caldwell told their website: “His ability and his speed in the final third really caught out eye. We look at a number of under-21 players from different teams and his specific profile stood out in terms of what we are looking for.
“He showed recently against Burton in the BSM Trophy that he has the ability to hurt League One defenders. He looked dangerous in that game and we are delighted to bring him in and get him up to speed in the next two weeks.”
Richards was in Chelsea and Arsenal’s academies as a youngster and penned his first professional deal with the latter in 2021.
He then switched to the King Power Stadium a year later and has been with the Foxes since then.
The ex-England youth international hasn’t played for their first-team yet though, hence why he was allowed to leave for Exeter City to get some minutes after their promotion from the Championship last term under ex-manager Enzo Maresca.
What now?
Leicester City will be weighing up Richards’ next move.
As for Exeter City, they are back in action this weekend with an away trip to face table toppers Birmingham City in what will be a tough test.
