Norwich City have brought Port Vale’s Rhys Walters in on trial as they consider a move for the midfielder, as per the Pink Un.
Norwich City are currently focused on on-pitch matters as the latest international break draws to a close.
The Canaries have the hectic winter schedule to deal with as they bid to find form in the Championship again. There have been positive signs under Johannes Hoff Thorup but three straight defeats before the break dampened spirits.
Turning around their poor form will be the priority but those behind the scenes at Carrow Road will have eyes on winter recruitment too. And now, it seems a new prospect is on their radar.
Norwich City have handed a trial to young midfielder Rhys Walters, according to the Pink Un.
The 19-year-old has spent time with other clubs but featured for the Canaries’ U21s on Wednesday night, playing 60 minutes in a Premier League Cup defeat to Exeter City. It comes after Walters turned down a new Port Vale contract at the end of last season.
While there has been no confirmation of an exit, it seems Walters is on the lookout for a move elsewhere.
More on Walters
While there’s a lack of clarity over Walters’ situation at Port Vale, it certainly seems the door is open for him to move on from the League Two club having joined Norwich City on trial.
Despite only turning 19 earlier this week, the midfielder has 22 senior appearances for the Valiants to his name. The club have a good reputation for developing young prospects and he looks to be among those touted for a bright future.
He has been deployed in more attacking roles, operating out on the wing and even up front as well as in his usual central midfield spot. It was the latter where he played for the Canaries and has spent much of his young career there too.
Youngsters on the radar
Norwich City regularly bring youngsters into their first-team fold, be it through their academy or players they have recruited from elsewhere at a young age. Kellen Fisher has become a big hit since arriving from Bromley.
There was a golden patch at Carrow Road where Todd Cantwell, Max Aarons and Jamal Lewis all emerged as standouts at a similar time, and they’ll be hoping to repeat that success in the years to come.
Time will tell if Walters can do enough to earn a deal at Carrow Road having caught the eye with Port Vale enough to earn a trial.
