Wrexham mulling over striker loan decision
01/07/2025 05:53 AM
Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has said that they continue to ‘weigh’ up the future of Sam Dalby at loan club Dundee United.
Wrexham sent the striker up to Scotland in the last transfer window to get some more game time.
Dalby, 25, has since been a hit at Dundee United and has scored 10 goals in 18 league matches.
Parkinson has said, as per a report by the Evening Leader: “Sam is there for the season, there is the opportunity to call him back and we’re just going to weigh everything up. Be fair to Dundee United because they have been great for him and be fair to Sam as well. He’s a player we rate but we just felt it was time for him to go and be someone’s number nine. He needed that and what a great loan move it has been for him so far.
“He’s done really well but we felt he would if given a run of games. He’s got real quality and it was great for us to watch the game the other night and to see him keep getting goals.”
Wrexham striker latest
Wrexham need to decide what is best for Dalby ahead of the second-half of this campaign.
If they were to recall him, he would have to battle it out for a place in their starting XI.
He is one of the first names on the team sheet at Dundee United right now and is in great form.
His contract with the Red Dragons expires in June and he is due to become a free agent as things stand.
The London-born man moved to the Racecourse Ground back in 2022 to bolster their attacking ranks.
Dalby has since scored 13 goals in 91 matches for the Welsh outfit and has helped them rise from the National League to League One during his time there.
Prior to his transfer, he had previously had spells at Leyton Orient, Leeds United, Morecambe, Watford, Stockport County, Woking and Southend United.
What now?
Dundee United will be praying that Wrexham let Dalby remain where he is.
Parkinson’s side are currently sat in 3rd place in the table behind Birmingham City and Wycombe Wanderers as they look to go up again.
They won 1-0 at home to Peterborough United last time out with attacker Steven Fletcher scoring a late winner. Their next league game is an away trip to Shrewsbury Town.
