Liverpool have enjoyed some incredible moments this century, with Steven Gerrard arguably the best player to put on the famous shirt for the Reds.

The former Anfield captain enjoyed 17 incredible years with Liverpool as Gerrard made over 700 appearances for the Merseyside giants and winning the UEFA Champions League, two FA Cups and three League Cups.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold naming Gerrard as one of his Liverpool idols, the former midfielder remains as big as ever at Anfield even with the 44-year-old’s managerial career not going in the direction many expected after success at Rangers.

And Aston Villa star Matty Cash has shared one Liverpool moment he used to constantly ask his former Aston Villa manager.

Cash always asked Gerrard about Liverpool’s 2005 Champions League win

Speaking to the press ahead of Villa’s Champions League tie with Bologna, the Polish international shared how he constantly asked Gerrard about Liverpool’s legendary 2005 Champions League win against AC Milan in Istanbul.

One of the greatest results in European football history, every Liverpool fans seems to have a story relating to that night, with Dietmar Hamann saying Djimi Traore was the hero in Istanbul on the night rather than Gerrard.

And the moment has remained influential in the nearly 20 years since that night, with Cash saying when asked what his favourite Champions League moment was: “The Liverpool – AC Milan match was unbelievable and the comeback was crazy.

“Obviously we had Stevie Gerrard as manager here and I asked him a lot of questions about it. Probably that I’d say. That game shows how you should never give up on any game, that you are never beaten. And all the goals were quality to watch.”

Liverpool might not enjoy a greater night than Istanbul

Liverpool fans have had some truly incredible nights since Istanbul, from the 4-0 win against FC Barcelona to finally lifting the Premier League title under Jurgen Klopp.

Yet despite these highs and the memories that come with them for every Liverpool fan, nothing will compare to what was experienced in Istanbul back in 2005 given the tension and the frame that unfolded at the Ataturk Stadium.

Indeed, Liverpool were the victors in the most unlikely of results in a major European final, and topping that experience could be impossible for supporters no matter how much success comes their way in the years to come.
