Liverpool still have over two weeks to add to their squad in the January transfer window.

Arne Slot’s side lead the way in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League and are also alive in the domestic cups, giving them a fantastic opportunity to win silverware in 2025.

The Dutchman hasn’t put a foot wrong since replacing Jurgen Klopp at the helm at Anfield and could look to pounce if market opportunities arise in January.

Rayan Cherki has been linked with a move to Liverpool and very much falls in that category as he continues to impress for Lyon.

And now, Lyon owner John Textor has made a big claim on the Frenchman’s future at the club.

Cherki’s name is well known in footballing circles, with the youngster earning rave reviews for his performances since his early days.

Primarily an attacking midfielder, he can also play out wide, making him an intriguing option for Liverpool and other teams in world football.

RTK exclusively revealed in November that Liverpool haven’t made an approach for Cherki, although they do hold the player in high regard and are well aware of his talents.

And now, Textor has revealed that the Frenchman has been wanting to leave the club for well over a year now, adding that he wanted to sign for PSG in the summer transfer window.

He said (via RMC): “Cherki, he’s been wanting to leave for two or three years. It has nothing to do with the DNCG!

“He wanted to go to PSG last year, he sent me a message to tell me: I really want to go to PSG”

Slot has given the green light to sign Cherki and with the 21-year-old clearly wanting to leave, it remains to be seen if a transfer materialises in January.

Do Liverpool need Cherki?

Cherki has been in fine form for Lyon this season and his versatility could add another dimension to Slot’s options in the final third.

Creatively, he is one of the most exciting players in world football, but Liverpool also have Harvey Elliott vying for a spot as a number ten.

The Englishman is a fantastic player in his own right but has struggled for game time this season, throwing a spanner into the works of a potential move for Cherki.

Nevertheless, Cherki’s talents are well-known to the bosses at Anfield and if he’s available for a nominal fee, don’t be surprised if Liverpool jump in to swiftly complete a transfer.

Cherki has been described as a ‘dangerous’ player by Rudi Garcia and could prove to be an x-factor signing if he does make a move to the club this month.
