Liverpool are in talks with Stefan Bajcetic over cutting short his loan spell at RB Salzburg.

The Reds made the surprise decision to send Bajcetic to the Austrian club in order to build his match fitness.

However, Rousing The Kop understands that Liverpool could now bring the 20-year-old back mid-season.

Former Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders was one of the key reasons for Bajcetic opting to choose Salzburg over Barcelona in the summer.

But after Lijnders was sacked in December, RTK have been informed that the young midfielder is no longer enjoying his time with the Red Bull club.

Liverpool could bring Stefan Bajcetic back

Bajcetic has been an important player for Salzburg this season, racking up 18 appearances across all competitions.

Liverpool are understood to be happy with the Spaniard’s game time so far and were not planning to bring him back to Anfield before the end of the campaign.

However, Bajcetic has removed all mention of Salzburg from his Instagram page and RTK have been informed that the Spain U21 star is no longer happy at the club.

As a result, Liverpool are understood to be in discussion with Bajcetic in order to come to a decision in the January window.

With Bajcetic himself instigating talks, RTK understands Liverpool have informed the midfielder that he would not be promised game time if he returns to his parent club.

However, the Reds will not keep Bajcetic in Austria if he makes it clear that he wants to cut short his stay.

Bajcetic’s mixed season with Salzburg

Although Bajcetic has been a well-used player at Salzburg this season, he has also been left out of the team on plenty of occasions.

The former Celta Vigo prospect has started just six out of 12 appearances in the Bundesliga, failing to feature at all in four matches.

In the Champions League Bajcetic has played five times, starting just once and failing to appear in one matchday squad.

With RB Salzburg currently in the middle of their winter break, they will return to competitive action on January 22nd against Real Madrid.
