Liverpool continued their purple patch of form this season with a win over Bologna in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

The Reds have now won five games in a row in all competitions and are slowly building up a head of steam.

It has been the perfect response after surprisingly losing to Nottingham Forest in September and for Arne Slot, things could hardly be going better right now.

Slot wasn’t too happy with his Liverpool side after Wednesday’s game, however.

The Reds were perhaps a little too open at times against Bologna and the Italian team were unfortunate not to score at Anfield.

Ultimately, Liverpool had Mohamed Salah to thank for ensuring that the night ended comfortably. The Egyptian had a hand in both goals. And once the game had finished, Slot was asked an interesting question about his No.11.

Arne Slot says he’s ‘always loved’ Mohamed Salah

After going three games without a goal, Salah has now scored in each of Liverpool’s last three fixtures.

But not only did he find the net with a sumptuous strike against Bologna, the Salah laid the ball on a plate for Alexis Mac Allister’s opener, too.

There were bits and pieces of frustration dotted about in between those two moments. But when all was said and done, a couple of flashes of Salah excellence were all it needed on Wednesday.

As a result, Slot was then predictably asked numerous times about the brilliance of the Egyptian King after the game.

And one eye-catching question from Sky Italia was relayed by Italian journalist Gabriele Marcotti on X.

“Have you come to love Mo Salah?” Marcotti says Slot was asked by one reporter.

“I always loved him… well, no… I always appreciated him… but I love my wife,” the Liverpool head coach jokingly responded.

Mohamed Salah underlines his importance

On another night, Liverpool could have come unstuck against Bologna.

The Rossoblu employed similar man-to-man marking tactics as Serie A colleagues Atalanta did at Anfield in April.

The Reds couldn’t live with their opponents that night and there were shades of the same performance on Wednesday.

Perhaps the biggest difference, though, was Salah. The 32-year-old did not start the game against Atalanta, and Liverpool were made to pay.

On Wednesday, in his favourite competition on his favourite ground, Mo came up with the goods. Slot may not love him quite just yet, but the Liverpool supporters certainly do and his latest match-winning performance was a reminder of why they always will.
