Liverpool face Nottingham Forest tonight in a game that could be huge for the Reds in their bid to win the Premier League title.

Arne Slot’s side sit six points clear of both Arsenal and Forest with a game in hand, with Liverpool having an incredible chance to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League standings to nine if they can win tonight and Tottenham can do the Anfield giants a favour on Wednesday.

With Slot confirming Joe Gomez’s absence for Liverpool once again, the Reds have a near-full-strength squad going into tonight’s game at the City Ground, where Forest will want to claim their second scalp against the Merseyside club this season.

Liverpool tipped to draw against Forest tonight

Writing for BBC Sport, the pundit tipped Liverpool to draw against Forest in what might be a ‘very tight game’ for the Reds, with Nuno Espirito Santo aware that tonight’s match could be make or break for his Garibaldi side.

Sutton said ahead of this evening’s clash: “Basically, this is going to be a very tight game with not many goals in it, and I am not going to back against Forest even if there are many ways where I think Liverpool might sneak a victory.

“You have got to earn the right to win the Premier League, and Liverpool have done brilliantly so far. When you are in a title race, there are always moments in the season where things can go against you a little bit, like they did against United, but they did not lose.

“This might be a period where they do stumble a bit but the teams below them are going to have to really sustain their push. That’s not really happened so far because Arsenal and Chelsea are both having a bit of a wobble. If Liverpool do drop more points here, those two sides really need to make the most of it. 1-1.”

Who else will Liverpool face this January?

Liverpool’s test tonight against Forest is arguably the hardest fixture the Reds have left this January, a welcome sign given how much football Slot’s squad will play between now and the end of the month and the transfer window.

After tonight’s trip to the City Ground, Liverpool will travel to Brentford before taking on LOSC Lille in their penultimate UEFA Champions League league game, where a win could guarantee Slot’s side top spot in the standings.

After that comes a home tie against newly-promoted Ipswich Town before Slot returns to the Netherlands to face former Eredivisie rival PSV Eindhoven, who will be keen to end Liverpool’s 100% record in the Champions League.
