Liverpool FC Women To Have Limited January Funds To Address Squad Depth

Manager Matt Beard has said he does not expect to have much to work with to help address a small squad that has already dealt with major injury issues.
The Liverpool FC Women have finished out a disappointing opening to the 2024-25 WSL season with a four match losing skid. Despite lofty expectations for themselves, the Reds have been hampered by a small squad that has had to contend with a bevy of injuries to key players.
Club owners FSG have spent big on a permanent training facility and moved the club into a larger and more modern stadium, but they are still well behind the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal for bolstering the squad itself. Liverpool have spent, breaking their own transfer record two summers in a row as they look to bring in the talent to compete. Despite that, manager Matt Beard has seemingly been left with a fairly restrictive limit to his spending. Liverpool spent big to bring in Olivia Smith this summer, but they failed to address the departures of dynamic right wing back Emma Koivisto, as well as midfield rotational players Missy Bo Kearns and Miri Taylor.
Matt Beard has lost all of his midfield options for a period of time over the fall and early winter, with Sofie Lundgaard being lost for the year. Lucy Parry, who was the in-house replacement for Emma Koivisto, has missed two months with an achilles issue. When the squad limped into the winter break, there was hope from supporters that there may be reinforcements on the way.
After a loss to Arsenal, Beard was asked if funds would made available during the January winter. His answer threw cold water on that hope as he stated:
"No, not really."
The follow up question to Beard was if the lack of funds left him frustrated.
"I always say, it's not always about the money – I think we 100% proved that last year."
The Reds do have good young talent, but they really could do with some quality depth in key areas.
