Liverpool look likely to be in the market for a new left-back over the coming transfer windows.

The Reds have been well covered on the left side of the defence for the past seven years, with Andy Robertson excelling for much of that time.

And while Robertson has earned the status of being one of the greatest full-backs in Liverpool history, second choice left-back Kostas Tsimikas has been a good option for the Reds, too.

This season, Arne Slot has rotated regularly between Robertson and Tsimikas, with the previously more regular starter seeing his game time reduced.

Tsimikas has done well when given the chance and the Greek is seen by some as being the new first choice for Liverpool.

Nevertheless, it’s clear that the Reds need a solution moving forward. And according to journalist Graeme Bailey, they may have found it.

Liverpool planning Antonee Robinson swap

According to Bailey, Liverpool have been looking at three left-backs more than any other as they plot what to do next.

One player who was not on that list was Fulham defender Antonee Robinson.

However, speaking exclusively to Rousing The Kop, Bailey says that Liverpool are actually now exploring the option of putting together a swap deal for Robinson which would see Tsimikas go the other way.

“They like Antonee Robinson a lot, they’ve talked to him before,” says the transfer expert.

“My information is that Liverpool are ready to offer Kostas Tsimikas as part of the deal for him. Liverpool scouts really like him and have liked him for quite a while, they think he’s top notch and that he can come in and be one of the best in Europe for Liverpool.

“I think they see him as a potential starter and an upgrade on Tsimikas to challenge with Robertson,” adds Bailey. “If they did go down that avenue then it would likely end interest in both Milos Kerkez and Rayan Ait Nouri.

“Tsimikas is very happy at Liverpool, he loves it. But if he finds out another left-back is coming in and he can go and start every week for another Premier League club, then why not?”

Antonee Robinson vs Kostas Tsimikas

Robinson was linked with Liverpool at a similar point of the season last year. Back then, The Standard suggested that a £35m offer could get the Reds their man.

Obviously, if Tsimikas is planned to be going in the other direction, then the overall cost would be reduced for Liverpool.

From a long-term point of view, there is some logic in Liverpool’s thinking. If they believe that Robinson is of a better standard than Tsimikas, then it’s makes plenty of sense.

Should the American international come in and develop as scouts seemingly think he will, then he can still take over full-time duties from Robertson in the future.

However, should he prove to more of a back-up in practice, then Liverpool could still go in to sign either Ait Nouri or Kerkez safe in the knowledge that they are not loading up on players in the same position.

This is certainly an interesting option for Liverpool. Let’s see how it progresses.
