The Reds and Blues had both hoped to play their mid-week league tie on Tuesday rather than Wednesday but that request was denied.

With the first weekend following the March international break designated an FA Cup weekend by the powers that be in English football, Liverpool will have to wait an extra few days before returning to action on Wednesday, April 2nd against Everton.

However, both the Merseyside Reds and Blues had hoped the game could be pulled forward to Tuesday, April 1st as neither are in the FA Cup and Everton in particular face the prospect of a Saturday lunchtime kickoff following the mid-week match against Liverpool.

The league have rejected that request, meaning Everton have the shortest downtime between mid-week and weekend matches. They're set to face Arsenal on April 5th, with the Gunners playing their mid-week game on Tuesday and getting an extra day's rest.

Liverpool don't play their weekend match until Sunday, when they travel to London to take on Fulham at Craven Cottage, but without an FA Cup match this weekend an extra day of rest between Premier League games would have suited them as well.

Beyond that, one imagines a better rested Everton for the match following the mid-week league round would have appealed to the Reds given their opponent are the side chasing Liverpool and hoping to make a title race of the final months of the season.
