The January transfer window is up and running and it remains to be seen if Liverpool fine-tune their squad this month.

Arne Slot refrained from spending heavily in the summer as he had just taken over, but now, he has a better idea of his squad and could look to make a handful of changes.

January is usually a tough month to get players in as it’s hard to find value, but over the years, Liverpool have had some luck in this regard.

And now, if reports are to be believed, they have had an official bid turned down for a player who Slot knows quite well.

In recent weeks, speculation surrounding Liverpool have dominated the back pages.

The likes of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah have made the headlines as their contracts run out at the end of the season.

Apart from that, Liverpool have been linked with a move for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, with Napoli reportedly willing to sell him in January as he hasn’t put pen to paper on an extension.

And now, 1000 Cuori Rossoblu state that Liverpool have had a bid rejected to sign Bologna’s Sam Beukema, who featured against the Reds in the UEFA Champions League earlier this season.

The central defender has earned rave reviews for his performances since moving to the Serie A last season, attracting interest from a host of clubs.

Liverpool were linked with Beukema earlier this season and the Dutchman even admitted he’d love to join the Reds, citing his desire to move to the Premier League in the future.

The Reds have reportedly made an offer, but the details behind the value of their bid haven’t been mentioned at this stage.

According to FC Inter News, the Dutchman is valued at around £21m and with the Reds a bit short on centre-back options currently, it remains to be seen how they react.

Liverpool and Bologna faced each other in the Champions League earlier this season and Slot was asked about Beukema in his pre-match press conference.

The Dutchman admitted that he tried to sign him while he was managing Feyenoord, although the central defender rejected those advances to secure a move to AZ Alkmaar.

"I was interested, the club I worked for – that included me – was interested in signing him," said the 46-year-old. "He had a real good season with the club he [got] promoted with. We were looking for a centre-back and we saw a lot of potential in him.

"Unfortunately for us, he made the choice to go to a different club. And unfortunately for him, he chose the wrong club because Feyenoord did much, much, much better than the club he chose!

"They're not going to like this at that club he chose!" Slot laughed. "That was also one of my former clubs, that's why I made the joke!

"But he did really well at AZ Alkmaar and he made a nice transfer to Bologna, where he does really well again. A very good player, looking forward to meeting him and seeing him tomorrow."

Slot has referred to him as a very good player and tried to sign him in the past. Liverpool’s bid has been rejected, but will it be third time lucky for the Dutchman? Time will tell.
