Report: Liverpool new favourites to sign PL player with 'unique skillset' after making decisive move

As January passes the halfway mark, Liverpool are still yet to do any business at all.
With the Reds sitting top of both the Premier League and Champions League tables, that is no great surprise at this stage.
The Liverpool squad is looking in decent shape and has put the Reds in an excellent position to win silverware in 2025.
Nevertheless, recent weeks have seen one or two Liverpool players look dangerously close to running out of steam.
And none have seemed to be struggling more than left-back Andy Robertson. Robertson has had a tough campaign and has faced calls from fans and pundits alike to be replaced.
With the 30-year-old struggling to hit his stride, reports claim that Liverpool are closing in on a deal for Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez.
Milos Kerkez prioritising Liverpool move
Kerkez has had a top season with Bournemouth, making a name for himself as one of the best young full-backs in Europe. And as Liverpool prepare for life after Robertson, Kerkez could be the perfect signing.
Still only 21 and with bags of Premier League experience, the Hungarian would certainly be the pick of many supporters.
Unfortunately, though, his quality has not gone unnoticed by some of Liverpool’s rivals. Manchester United have been heavily linked with Kerkez as they look for a new left-back of their own.
According to a report from The i on Wednesday, however, Kerkez has decided that he ‘favours a move to Anfield’ over both United and Man City.

All three clubs have reportedly made decisive contact with the player’s agent, although no concrete offer is said to have been made to Bournemouth.
Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes is claimed to be a ‘major part’ of Kerkez’s wish to join the Reds, with the former Cherries man having brought him to Dean Court in 2023.
Bournemouth are reportedly under no pressure to sell, though, and a move will seemingly not happen in January. But come the summer, it’s claimed that the South Coast side will do business at around £50m.
Kerkez looks like a no-brainer for Liverpool
In our opinion, the only thing which could stop this move from happening is the price.
Some would of course argue that Kerkez represents decent value at £50m. Former AZ Alkmaar teammate Mat Ryan said Kerkez has a ‘unique skillset,’ and you have to pay the big bucks for those kinds of players.
However, it is indeed a lot of money to spend on a left-back. Robertson cost Liverpool around £10m when he joined in 2017 and the Reds would no doubt like a similar kind of outlay this time, too.
But with Kerkez looking like the outstanding candidate – and Robertson clearly on the decline – the Hungary international could be a difference maker for Arne Slot.
Still a long way to go in this saga you feel, but it looks like advantage Liverpool for now.
