Report: Liverpool now eyeing £20m midfielder with 'no significant weaknesses' as Martin Zubimendi alternative
Today at 01:30 PM
The January transfer window is just three weeks away from opening, with Martin Zubimendi still wanted by Liverpool.
The Real Sociedad midfielder was close to a move to Anfield in the summer, though Zubimendi opted to reject Liverpool to stay with the Basque side having enjoyed an incredible year with the La Liga club and with the Spanish national team.
Although Liverpool remain interested in signing Zubimendi heading into 2025, the odds of the Sociedad maestro heading to Merseyside seem as low as they have ever been, with Manchester City now seemingly the more likely side to sign the 26-year-old.
Yet Liverpool appear to have a midfield alternative in mind.
Liverpool eyeing Feyenoord captain Quinten Timber
According to FootballTransfers, Liverpool are keeping tabs on Feyenoord skipper Quinten Timber, who thrived under Arne Slot during their time together with the Rotterdam giants with the midfielder now a Netherlands international.
As per the report, the 23-year-old midfielder is viewed as a player with ‘no significant weaknesses’, with Timber forming a solid reputation for himself in the Eredivisie as one of the most complete players in the entire division.
With an asking price worth £20m according to CalcioMercato, Timber would be quite the signing for Liverpool in the January transfer window, with Slot keen on adding a midfielder with the Reds firmly in the hunt for the Premier League title and UEFA Champions League.
And with the race to sign Timber starting to heat up, Liverpool have to ensure that they are the ones to secure the midfielder’s signature, with Tottenham also believed to be interested in the Feyenoord captain.
What has been previously reported about Liverpool’s interest in Timber?
The twin brother of Arsenal star Jurrien Timber, Quinten is starting to emerge from his sibling’s shadow after an impressive 18 months with Feyenoord, a path that Slot helped forge during their final year together in the Netherlands.
And with Liverpool scouts already impressed with what they’ve seen from Timber, with Slot potentially leaning towards reuniting with his former midfielder with the January transfer window just around the corner.
Indeed, Timber would tick a lot of boxes in what Liverpool are looking for what it comes to a midfield signing, and with the Feyenoord captain available for as little as £20m, the Reds have to make a move in January for the Dutch international.
