Report: Liverpool now keeping tabs on £55m European champion, but there's already an issue

Ademola Lookman has established himself as one of the best attackers in Europe, with Liverpool linked with the Nigerian international.
The Reds are set for a big summer of spending with Liverpool believed to be looking at five positions to strengthen in the off-season, with Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz both linked with exits away from Anfield.
As a result, Lookman has emerged as a target for Liverpool, with the Merseyside clearly impressed with the forward’s form in the last two seasons as the versatile attacker scored a hat-trick in last year’s UEFA Europa League final.
And Liverpool’s latest stance on signing Lookman has now been detailed heading into the summer transfer window.
Liverpool still keeping tabs on Ademola Lookman alongside Arsenal
According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool are still monitoring Lookman’s situation at Atalanta, with the Serie A side demanding €65m (£55m) for the in-demand former Everton attacker to leave Bergamo in the summer.
With a combined 25 goals and assists in all competitions this season, Lookman’s numbers have been impressive after his breakout performance in last year’s Europa League final, where the striker made history in Dublin.
Ademola Lookman’s 2024/25 Atalanta stats | Games played | Goals | Assists |
Serie A | 23 | 13 | 5 |
Supercoppa Italia | 1 | 0 | 0 |
UEFA Champions League | 7 | 5 | 2 |
UEFA Super Cup | 1 | 0 | 0 |
Total | 32 | 18 | 7 |
And for Liverpool, Lookman’s profile is exactly what Arne Slot is looking for in a forward, with the striker capable of playing across the entire attacking front line and provide numerous avenues to cause damage to opposing teams.
However, Liverpool already face one big problem in trying to sign Lookman, and it’s an issue that the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United might not face in their own bids to recruit the 27-year-old.
Liverpool unwilling to match Atalanta’s demands for Ademola Lookman
Liverpool’s interest in Lookman has been documented for some time, with the striker clearly a player who is of interest at Anfield despite his age and his former links to Everton, even with the Nigerian’s record at Goodison Park nothing to write home about.
Yet there is already a problem in the Reds’ chase for the 27-year-old, with Liverpool already alerting Atalanta that they do not want to match the £55m asking price the Serie A side are demanding for the forward.
Indeed, although Liverpool are expected to spend this summer, £55m on a player like Lookman might be too much considering how much needs to be done, even if the attacker fits the profile for Slot’s system.
