Report: Liverpool player who started vs Accrington Stanley now 'unhappy' with his situation, he's open to leaving
Today at 10:00 AM
The January transfer window is shaping up to be a big one for Liverpool, yet rumours and speculation did little to distract the Reds on Saturday against Accrington Stanley.
Arne Slot’s side were 4-0 winners against the League Two side as Federico Chiesa scored his first goal for Liverpool with Trent Alexander-Arnold also finding the back of the net with a ‘Beckham-esque’ strike from outside the box.
With Rio Ngumoha also becoming the youngest starter in Liverpool’s history, it was an all-round excellent day at the office for the Anfield side, with the Merseyside giants back to winning ways having lost midweek against Tottenham following a draw against Manchester United.
Yet one player who started for Liverpool against Accrington Stanley is believed to be open to leaving the Reds this January.
Wataru Endo ‘unhappy’ with current Liverpool situation
According to CaughtOffside, Wataru Endo is ‘unhappy’ with his current situation at Liverpool, with the Japanese international hardly featuring for the Reds this season as the midfielder started in central defence alongside Jarell Quansah against Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
Although Endo wore the captain’s armband for Liverpool for some time during their win at Anfield this weekend, all signs currently point towards the former VfB Stuttgart star leaving Merseyside just 18 months after joining from the Bundesliga.
With Premier League clubs interested in Endo, this January window could be the perfect time for the 31-year-old to depart Liverpool for a new venture in England, with the midfielder clearly good enough to feature regularly for another team in the division.
Yet with Liverpool insiders claiming Endo won’t be sold in January and the Japanese superstar starting in Saturday for Slot’s side, hopes of a deal actually happening could now be slim, especially with how hard it will be for the Reds to find a replacement in the coming weeks.
Liverpool should only allow Endo to leave if a replacement is lined up
With just 433 minutes played this season with the bulk of these minutes coming in the League Cup and FA Cup, it makes sense why Endo has grown frustrated with his current situation at Liverpool under Slot.
And although the midfielder would be well within his right to demand an exit from Liverpool this month, the Reds know that they simply can’t let Endo leave in the coming weeks unless a replacement has been lined up in the market.
Indeed, central midfield is a position that Liverpool will want to invest in anyway this January, yet allowing Endo to leave will mean the Reds have to realistically look to make two signings two make up for the Japanese international’s departure, a prospect the Anfield side might not be able to afford.
