Liverpool will enter the 2025 summer transfer market in search of a new striker.

The week before the international break highlighted the Reds’ deficiencies in this area of the pitch as the Premier League leaders struggled to score against both PSG in the Champions League and Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final, while Mohamed Salah had two off days.

Diogo Jota has struggled with form recently and could be an exit at Anfield this summer. Darwin Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool at the end of the season after Al-Nassr showed interest in the Reds striker in January.

The sale of the Uruguayan would help raise funds for a replacement, and it is believed that Liverpool have already made contact with one of their targets currently playing in the Premier League.

Liverpool make contact with Brighton’s Joao Pedro

Alexander Isak is Liverpool’s main target for the striker role in their squad next season as the Newcastle star is the perfect fit for Arne Slot’s system and is in the form of his life this season at St James’ Park.

Liverpool have also been linked with Joao Pedro in recent weeks as the Brazilian star is also a great fit for the Reds, as the forward plays in a similar way to club legend Roberto Firmino.

According to a new report from CaughtOffside, Liverpool have made contact with Pedro’s team to discuss the possibility of a move during the summer as the Brazilian offers the Reds a solid alternative to Isak should Newcastle demand an extremely high transfer fee.

The Brighton striker could be available for around £42m (€50m), which is much cheaper than what is being quoted for the Swedish talent.

The report states that Liverpool will face competition from Arsenal, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Manchester United for the 23-year-old; however, it is still early days in the race for his signature.

Alan Shearer is a fan of Liverpool target Joao Pedro

Pedro is having a very good season at Brighton as the Brazilian has produced eight goals and seven assists across 25 appearances throughout the 2024/25 campaign.

The 23-year-old has a contract at the Amex Stadium until 2028, however, the Seagulls are unlikely to step in the forward’s way should a suitable offer arrive this summer and if he want to leave the club ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Following Pedro’s performance against Bournemouth back in November, in which the forward scored and created another, Alan Shearer heaped praise on the Brazilian on Match Of The Day.

"He was superb today and they just edged it in those forward positions,” the pundit stated via The Argus. "His hold-up play was superb at times when he had to keep hold of the ball and bring his team-mates into play."

This is high praise on a key element of Pedro’s game that Slot would certainly make use of. The Brighton star would be a great fit for Liverpool as remains to be seen if the Reds approach the Seagulls with an official offer.
