Report: Liverpool target likened to £50m France superstar now 'likely' to move to Europe

Liverpool are set for big changes to the squad this summer, yet that doesn’t mean the Reds are not planning for their long-term future.

The Anfield side have made it a good habit in recent years to hoover up some of the most exciting players in the United Kingdom and beyond, with Trey Nyoni one of Liverpool’s breakout youngsters this season having joined the club from Leicester City two years ago.

With Rio Ngumoha also impressing having joined Liverpool from Chelsea last summer, the future is looking bright for Arne Slot, who this transfer window will be focused on the more immediate changes needed to the first-team squad.

Yet one wonderkid linked with a move to Liverpool is now set for a move to Europe heading into the summer transfer window.

According to TeamTalk, Ecuador teenager Johan Martinez is ‘likely’ to make the move to Europe with more teams joining the race for the 15-year-old winger, with the Reds amongst the pack for the promising attacker.

Liverpool are interested in signing Martinez with the Independiente del Valle wonderkid likened to £50m-rated PSG and France superstar Ousmane Dembele, with the youngster expected to become the next big prospect from Ecuador.

Given his age, though, it will be three years before Martinez ends up making the move to Europe, with South American players only legally allowed to play on the continent until they turn 18-years-old.

However, as seen by deals the likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid have made in recent years for the best youngsters in South America, Liverpool could still strike a deal with Independiente for Martinez, an outcome that future-proof the Reds’ attack given the forward’s exceptional potential.

What other players could Liverpool sign this summer?

Liverpool are set for a squad overhaul the likes of which hasn’t been seen in some years, with the Reds keen to strengthen in five positions as Slot looks to build a team that can go the distance in all competitions next season.

And rumours heading into the summer have been exciting for the Anfield side, with Liverpool interested in signing Alexander Isak as the Merseyside giants aim to add more central firepower for next season regardless of Mohamed Salah’s future.

Indeed, Martinez joining Liverpool will be an exciting signing for the future, but heading into the summer, there are more urgent matters that need addressing for the Reds, with every area of the pitch in need of recruitments.
