Roberto De Zerbi has already made Joao Pedro transfer prediction as Liverpool make him transfer priority
Today at 12:00 PM
Liverpool usually keep their cards close to their chest in the transfer market, making them a tough nut to crack.
No one heard a peep about Federico Chiesa until his deal to move to Anfield was in the final stages, although the Giorgi Mamardashvili saga was widely reported in the media due to drawn-out negotiations with Valencia.
In the upcoming transfer windows, Liverpool are expected to be active in terms of incomings as Arne Slot aims to fine-tune his squad.
And if reports are to be believed, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Joao Pedro has emerged as a target for the Reds.
Liverpool make Joao Pedro a transfer priority
Joao Pedro joined the Seagulls for a club-record 30m fee from Watford last season and has steadily developed into a key player for the club.
He showed his class under Roberto de Zerbi last season and has carried on from where he left off under Fabian Hurzeler with four goals and three assists to his name in the Premier League in the current campaign.
According to Brazilian outlet UOL, the Brazilian striker has emerged as a ‘transfer priority’ for Liverpool, who want to sign him in the summer of 2025.
However, Brighton have proved to be tough negotiations in the past, so the Reds are willing to open talks as early as January to get a deal done.
What has De Zerbi said about Pedro?
De Zerbi worked with Pedro for a solitary season and the young striker showed what he’s capable of as he scored nine Premier League goals last season.
After a 4-2 win against Tottenham last December – a game in which Pedro scored twice for his side – De Zerbi described him as the best player on the pitch and added that it would be hard to keep him if the big boys come calling.
"He was the best player on the pitch,” said De Zerbi via The Athletic.
"He played another incredible game. I am really pleased with his improvement in mentality, attitude. In the defensive phase, he defended like a centre-back for 90 mins.
"He is becoming a top player. I hope in the next year to work with him, but it will be very tough."
Jamie Carragher feels Liverpool should sell Darwin Nunez after his underwhelming displays this season, with the Uruguayan once again drawing a blank against Girona in the UEFA Champions League.
If that were to be the case, the Reds could intensify their pursuit of Pedro, who at the age of 23 could really explode with better players around him.
