Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Target Brighton Striker João Pedro

The 23-year-old Brazilian's profile is reminiscent of Roberto Firmino and on paper he seems a suitable target if the Reds decide they need to sign a striker.
With Liverpool and Mohamed Salah looking increasingly likely to agree an extension that keeps the Reds' Egyptian King on Merseyside for at least a few more seasons and young attacker Ben Doak tearing it up with Middlesbrough in the Championship, Liverpool's right wing needs might not be as pressing as once assumed.
Meanwhile on the left, Luiz Diaz and Cody Gakpo have both been in fine form under first year Liverpool manager Arne Slot. Through the middle, though, Diogo Jota's injury record and what has at times felt a step back of a season so far at least for Darwin Nuñez point to a potential need for a signing for the centre of the attack next summer.
Into that picture a flurry of rumours linking Liverpool with 23-year-old Brighton striker João Pedro has emerged this week, with reports in the Brazilian press having made their way to English outlets. As with any rumour making the leap to the English tabloids it's hard to judge how much serious interest there might actually be.
Still, on paper Pedro seems a plausible target if Liverpool view a central attacker as a priority, with the six-foot striker perhaps lacking as a pure finisher but solid in front of goal and boasting a well rounded game, both willing and able to press without the ball and create for teammates in a way reminiscent of Roberto Firmino.
If Liverpool's goal threat is to continue to come primarily from the wide areas and if the club feel they cannot trust Jota's fitness, Pedro's is certainly a profile that seems a strong fit, with perhaps the biggest question mark being whether an agreeable deal can be done with Brighton, who signed him from Watford in 2023 in a £30M deal.
