Liverpool came through a difficult game against Crystal Palace to keep themselves at the top of the Premier League table.

The Reds have had a superb start to the season, winning six out of their first seven games.

The trip to Selhurst Park is never an easy one, though, and Liverpool knew they’d have to grind out a performance to stay first in the Premier League.

In the end, a dominant first-half performance was enough to take the game away from Palace.

Diogo Jota caused the Eagles’ defence all sorts of problems and poked home an excellent Cody Gakpo cross.

And although his Palace team came back into the game from that point, manager Oliver Glasner claimed after the match that Liverpool had done something to really underline their quality during that first-half.

Oliver Glasner hails Liverpool movement

Liverpool looked thoroughly on top throughout the first-half against Crystal Palace.

They would certainly have liked to have added an extra goal or two to make the second period more comfortable, but in the end it was not needed.

Glasner had praised Liverpool before the game, claiming that Arne Slot’s players looked ‘hungry and ambitious’ heading into the campaign.

The Austrian was given a front row seat to that on Saturday and admitted via journalist Bobby Manzi after the final whistle that Liverpool were simply too good for his team at times.

“I think in the first half Liverpool showed why they are top of the table,” Glasner gushed.

“We couldn’t get pressure on the ball – they moved it so quickly.

“The way we played in the second half – creating chances and moments and not giving them chances – gives me confidence.”

What happened in the later kick-offs?

Following Liverpool’s victory at Selhurst Park, the Reds knew that they would head into the international break at the top of the league.

Four points clear of Man City, there was no chance that Pep Guardiola’s side could catch them.

Like Liverpool, City were really tested on Saturday. After falling behind in the first-half, though, the champions fought their way to a 3-2 win over Fulham.

Arsenal also went behind at home against Southampton, but put three unanswered goals past the Saints in the final 32 minutes to win 3-1.

The results mean that City remain a point behind Liverpool in second, with Arsenal in third on goal difference.
