Ibrahima Konate has been in fine form for Liverpool under Arne Slot this season as they find themselves at the top of the Premier League table.

The towering Frenchman has marshaled the Reds’ backline expertly alongside Virgil van Dijk and has managed to stay clear of injuries so far.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Liverpool are in talks to renew Konate’s contract, adding that it’s only a matter of time before he puts pen to paper on an extension.

Now, it appears as if another player could be in line for a new deal after his fantastic performances this season.

Liverpool want to give Luis Diaz a new contract

Luis Diaz has been one of Liverpool’s best players under Slot and recently scored a stunning second-half hat-trick in the 4-0 UEFA Champions League win against Bayer Leverkusen.

At the start of the season, Barcelona were interested in signing Diaz and there were reports that the Reds wouldn’t be opposed to a departure.

Romano claims Liverpool worked hard behind the scenes to present their new project to the Colombian, who eventually opted to remain at Anfield as a transfer never materialised.

"Credit to what Liverpool did with Luis Diaz,” said Romano on his YouTube channel.

“In August, some important clubs prepared to attack the situation for him. It was never close but some clubs were prepared to make something happen.

“Richard Hughes and Arne Slot were talking to Luis Diaz and presenting the new project. They introduced him to the new idea they had for the club for the present and the future.”

Romano also believes Liverpool will open contract talks with Diaz soon, with his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2026.

“I will not be surprised to see Liverpool after Ibrahima Konate – who will be the next one to renew his contract – negotiate a new deal with Diaz. Liverpool want to try to make a new deal with Lucho so let's see what's going to happen."
