Ryan Gravenberch has been one of the success stories of the season so far for Liverpool as Arne Slot looks for solutions in midfield.

The Dutchman was signed as more of an attack minded player under Jurgen Klopp but struggled for proper opportunities.

However, since Slot’s arrival, Gravenberch has adopted a more deep-lying role in the midfield three and so far, it’s been a roaring success.

Gravenberch has spoken of how Slot has helped him this season and after suggestions Liverpool could have sold Gravenberch if they’d signed Martin Zubimendi, it’s been quite the turnaround.

And now, speaking about his new role, the Dutchman has shed light on how he’s truly feeling about his position.

Ryan Gravenberch shares his honest verdict on playing as a number six for Liverpool

Speaking in an interview with The Guardian, Gravenberch was asked about his role in the team and adapting to playing as a deeper midfielder.

And according to the Dutchman, there’s plenty more learning to do.

“It feels good but to be honest I have to adapt more because I'm not a natural defending No 6,” Gravenberch said.

“First, I was like a more attacking midfielder, so for myself I have to adapt more. I think the first games were really good but I have to keep improving.

“We have a lot of possession and I have a lot of the ball and that is what I wanted, so it feels good, it feels comfortable.

"I spoke to Macca [Alexis Mac Allister] because obviously last season he played a lot there and also [Wataru] Endo about what they used to do, anticipating where the ball can come, just some little chats."

Gravenberch can make the position his own

It’s not very often that a player like Ryan Gravenberch gets a reprieve like this but here we are.

Had Zubimendi been signed, then we might just have seen the midfielder moved on or even go out on loan to look for more football.

As it turns out, the former Ajax man now has a golden chance to stake a claim as one of Liverpool’s top midfielders and seal his place in the team for years to come.

A good season under Arne Slot for Gravenberch is vital and the way he’s going, we might just see him excel.
