After a win at Wolves saw Liverpool go top of the table in the Premier League, the Reds captain is solely focused on Bologna in the Champions League.

For the first time this season, Liverpool finish the weekend at the top of the Premier League table. The Reds' 2-1 win over Wolves, coupled with Manchester City dropping points, saw Liverpool leapfrog the reigning sportswashers, err...champions, of the Premier League.

After the match, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk felt his side played well in a deserved win, especially in the second half. He hailed the full team effort, noting that even Mohamed Salah was back in his own box heading balls clear when needed.

"We controlled the game – we poorly gave a goal away – and that obviously could have been dangerous but we scored very quickly after that and that helps. They have to come out a little bit more and then there is a little bit more space to play."

"We have a very good squad – a mixture of experience and talent – and players who are at a very good stage of their career. So it is good to see the way we are playing. Mo was many times in the box and heading balls away and stuff, and that is the kind of commitment we need from everyone."

While supporters are rightfully excited by the strong start under new head coach Arne Slot, van Dijk is only focused on the next match, a midweek Champions League clash with Bologna. He knows the season is a long grind, and it is way to early to get caught up in watching the table.

"So far, so good. But it is only one game and we all realize that. Now we focus on the Champions League."

"Do I pay attention to the table now? No. December is always a crucial month. The teams who go through that well, winning games and having no injuries, have a big chance to be successful. Let's see."
