Liverpool players are slowly starting to reconvene back at the AXA Training Centre following a busy international break.

The Reds saw 15 first-team players head off to feature for their countries ahead of what is set to be a crucial period for Arne Slot’s team.

Tuesday was a first day back at the Liverpool training ground for those players not involved as the Reds gear up to play Southampton on Sunday.

While many of those in training were youngsters from the Liverpool academy, there were still a handful of more senior stars on show in Kirkby.

Mohamed Salah and Joe Gomez were out on the pitches having not been involved for Egypt or England respectively, while Harvey Elliott and even Alisson Becker were also happily spotted after recovering from injury problems.

The man plenty of Liverpool fans had wanted to see was Federico Chiesa, though. And, thankfully, there was some sign of the Italian around the facility on Tuesday.

Federico Chiesa spotted during training

Chiesa was unfortunately not shown in any of the snaps Liverpool’s social media team decided to post of training on Tuesday.

As a result, it looked highly likely that the 27-year-old is still injured and therefore has no chance of playing against Southampton on Sunday.

However, eagle-eyed viewers who tuned in to LFCTV’s latest ‘Inside Training‘ video will have spotted Chiesa wandering around at the AXA Centre.

Sadly, Chiesa was not seen out on the pitches with Salah, Gomez and the rest.

Instead, the Italy international was caught only very briefly. After Salah wandered around the changing room greeting all the younger players, the Egyptian disappeared through a side door.

Coming from the direction of the pitches, Chiesa catches Salah’s eye and quickly wanders into shot and through the door after his teammate.

Tellingly, there is time for a smile and a little joke with head of rehab physiotherapy Lee Nobes before he’s gone again. Nice to see you, Fede!

Will Federico Chiesa be ready for Southampton?

Although this was not much, it was still nice to see Chiesa involved in some capacity at training.

The former Juventus man was kitted up in full training gear and his direction of travel from the pitches suggests that he had been doing some one-on-one work with the Liverpool coaching staff.

As a result of him not being quite ready to join in the group session just yet, it seems unlikely that Chiesa will be ready to go against Southampton.

However, it is still relatively early in the week. If the Reds’ No.14 can progress in the coming days, then perhaps he will be fine to join once the rest of the Liverpool squad arrive later in the week.

Frustration has reigned throughout Chiesa’s time at Anfield so far, but if he can slowly get himself ready, hopefully the long wait will be worth it.
