Arne Slot continued his fantastic start to life at Liverpool as his side edged out Chelsea 2-1 in their Premier League meeting at Anfield.

Slot showed his emotions against Chelsea, in what was one of the Liverpool manager's biggest tests since taking over from Jurgen Klopp.

The Anfield faithful have taken an immediate liking to the Dutchman, who has quickly found success since joining from Feyenoord in the summer.

Liverpool sit very top of the Premier League table after the narrow win against Chelsea, where Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones were on target.

Slot needed to rotate his squad following the international break, with South American stars Alexis Mac Allister, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez not risked from the start.

Trent Alexander-Arnold meanwhile had an injury worry before the meeting with the Blues, but he was passed fit to start and play a key role.

The latest victory and indeed Slot's handling of the international break has delighted former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez, who said on BBC Match of the Day 2: "Slot was saying the right thing for me. When you want to win titles, he was saying, we have balance, we defend well, and they are a threat in attack.

"They are at the top of the league because they are attacking, and they are defending really well. They have balance, but he is someone, you can see, he has common sense when he is talking and the way he was talking.

"And also, when they were talking about the international break, we were talking about that before, when you have experience and you play at the international level, especially with the South American players coming in, it is crucial to win the game in one way or another way.

"They did like a team that is very competitive, they know what they have to do, they have the right mentality to stay at the top of the table."

It was a big risk to rest Mac Allister in particular, although the decision to include Jones from the start proved to be a fantastic one.

The academy graduate enjoyed a stunning performance at Anfield, with his fellow midfielder Mac Allister replacing him late on.

Diaz meanwhile also emerged from the bench just after the hour mark for Cody Gakpo, while Nunez was forced into an early appearance after the injury to Diogo Jota.

Liverpool's squad depth was certainly tested for the Chelsea clash, but that test was passed impressively at Anfield.

The busy fixture list is, however, only beginning, with meetings with RB Leipzig and Arsenal still to come this week.

Benitez does, of course, know exactly what Slot will be going through, with the former undoubtedly wanting the very best for the latter at Anfield.
