Cerny has say on Rangers 'watergate' incident with winger baffled

Vaclav Cerny’s ‘watergate’ incident during Rangers’ win over Celtic has prompted police action and a potential ban.

And he has admitted he finds the response all a bit much.

The Czech winger was seen spraying water in the direction of home fans as he wildly celebrated Hamza Igamane’s spectacular winning goal at Parkhead. The initial response from manager Barry Ferguson was that he didn’t see the incident.

It has been reported that Police Scotland are investigating Cerny’s actions are ‘receiving information’ before beginning their enquiries.

The SFA are also looking into it and the cheeky wideman could face a ban, with as much as eight games mentioned, along with Dujon Sterling for a post-match social media post.

Rangers fans have found the while thing hilarious, as did Ally McCoist who joked the Wolfsburg loanee deserved a knighthood.

But Cerny insists all of the outcry has been “absurd”.

Cerny breaks silence on Rangers watergate scandal

Rangers winger Cerny has headed out on international duty with the Czech Republic, who are due to play Faroe Islands and Gibraltar in World Cup Qualifiers.

And he has given an interview in his homeland where he has been quizzed about the incident which made headlines.

The 27-year-old admits he can’t quite believe all of the outcry for what was a celebration in the heat of the moment in a derby.

He told iSport Blesk: "I don't want to say too much, I can't. I find it a bit absurd.

“The stands are so close, to have open water… I didn't even know what was happening at that moment. I just ran. It's a derby."

What has been said about Cerny incident vs Celtic

Ferguson was asked about it on Sky Sports immediately after the match and said: "No, listen I was just concentrating on celebrating and just making sure we were going to get back into a shape to see the game out if I'm being honest."

A Police Scotland spokesperson told the broadcaster: "Officers received information and enquiries are ongoing."

And a Celtic spokesperson told the Celtic Way: "With regards to the match at Celtic Park, we can also confirm that the Club has raised concerns regarding members of the away team engaging with Celtic supporters with the relevant authorities."
