Ruben Amorim claims Rangers will be facing the 'worst Manchester United team in history' in the Europa League at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese manager, 39, took over at Manchester United at the beginning of November but has won only two out of ten Premier League matches.

Speaking after the Red Devils were defeated 3-1 by Brighton & Hove Albion at home in the Premier League, Amorim lambasted his team as the 'worst ever' in the club's 147-year history.

The comments come before Rangers visit Old Trafford in the Europa League in a hotly anticipated Battle of Britain clash this coming Thursday.

Rangers to face 'worst Manchester United team ever'

“In 10 games in the Premier League, we won two,” said Amorim, as quoted by Sky Sports.

“Imagine what this is for a fan of Manchester United. Imagine what this is for me. So we are getting a new coach that is losing more than the last coach. I have full knowledge of that.

“Like I said, I’m not going to change, no matter what. I know we can succeed, but we need to survive this moment. Because I’m not naive and I know that we need to survive now.

“We are being the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United. I know that you want headlines, but I’m saying that because we have to acknowledge that and to change that.

"Here you go, your headlines.”

The comments come with Manchester United 13th in the Premier League, winning only five of 12 league matches at Old Trafford this season.

Ruben Amorim was asked if it will take time for his team to get used to his tactics, with the manager insisting he will not be changing his style for the visit of Rangers this week.

The former Sporting Lisbon boss has warned that both the players and fans are 'going to suffer' until results begin to turn and players embrace his controversial 3-4-3 system.

“That is clear," said Amorim. "With me, that is clear. Because I’m not going to change the way I see the game. I’m very clear on that.

“The players are going to suffer, I’m sorry, the fans are going to suffer. I have one way of doing things, I know it’s going to [bring] results.

"But we have to suffer these moments. I think it’s very clear for everybody what we are going to do.”

Rangers to be without key player at Old Trafford

Rangers and Philippe Clement will fancy their chances of an Europa League upset against Manchester United this week.

But Rangers will have to overcome the Premier League side without influential midfielder Mohamed Diomande.

The Ivorian midfielder, 23, is banned for the match after picking up his third yellow card of the group stage in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

Diomande has started all but one of Rangers' six Europa League games so far this season, coming off the bench at half-time in the 4-0 win over FCSB at Ibrox.

Rangers are also waiting on the fitness of Jack Butland, who will hope to return to Manchester United for the game after spending the 22/23 season on loan at Old Trafford.

The Gers have also been without John Souttar, Dujon Sterling and Tom Lawrence in recent weeks, whilst Oscar Cortes and Danilo have sustained fresh injuries.
