Stoke City youngster Adam Watson has joined Witton Albion on loan, as announced by the non-league side’s official club website.
Stoke City have let the prospect head out the exit door on a temporary basis to get some experience under his belt.
Watson, 18, has linked up with the Northern Premier League Division One West side on an initial one-month basis.
Witton Albion confirmed he went straight into their clash against Hanley Town on Tuesday night as they were beaten 2-1. They are currently sat 19th in the table as they look to avoid relegation this season.
Watson will be eager to get plenty of game time over the course of the next four weeks as he looks to boost his development.
He is due to return to Stoke City in January and they will have a decision to make on what to do with him next once he is back at the Bet365 Stadium.
Stoke City loan exit
Watson has been with Stoke City since Under-13’s level and has since risen up through their academy ranks.
He has been a regular for the Championship side at various different youth levels to date.
The attacker has made 33 appearances for their Under-18’s side so far in his career, two of which have come in the FA Youth Cup, and he has scored seven goals.
Watson was loaned out for the first time to Hanley Town in the last campaign.
He then linked back up with the Stoke-based club earlier in this term for a second spell.
The New Zealand-born man represents the country of his birth at international youth level.
Watson played in the Under-17’s World Cup last year and Stoke City’s Academy Director Gareth Owen said: “We are all really pleased that Adam has had the opportunity to represent Stoke City at the Under-17 World Cup.
“I know it is a proud moment for Adam and his family whenever he gets the opportunity to play for New Zealand and he returns to Stoke all the better for the experience of testing himself against the elite players in his age group, including scoring against Germany, who went on to win the competition.”
What now?
Stoke City will keep tabs on how Watson performs at Witton Albion.
Their first-team lost 2-1 away at Luton Town on Tuesday night and are back in action this weekend at home to Cardiff City.
