Sunderland progressed to the fourth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup after a 4-0 thrashing of Huddersfield at Eppleton.

The Black Cats struck home twice in the first half with goals from Libbi McInnes and Mary McAteer.

The home side added a third goal through Amy Goddard and later Eleanor Dale sealed the victory with a strike.

Mel Reay made four changes from their league cup defeat to Blackburn, including Katie Kitching and Goddard to the starting 11.

The Wearside team were dominant in the opening minutes of the game, McInnes forcing a save from Huddersfield’s goalkeeper Kacey Bolton-Woollam.

Sunderland continued to pile on pressure in the first 15 minutes, long range shots from Jessie Stapleton

The terriers defended well with a goal line clearance coming from Autumn Housley.

In the 17th minute, McInnes low driven shot from outside the box found its way to the back of the net.

Sunderland doubled their lead just after the half hour mark, Grace Edes cross was not cleared and allowed McAteer to poke it home from three yards out.

The black cats continued to out play the travelling side after the half time break forcing Bolton-Woollam to make close range saves.

In the 55th minute Grace Ede's aerial ball was found and headed into the net by Sunderland defender Goddard, scoring for the first time in red and white.

The only Huddersfield threat came from a well-timed run down the left-hand side by Yasmin Mason, however the ball was cleared and amounted to nothing.

With 20 minutes left to play Dale found herself one on one with Bolton-Woollam, a good save from the goalkeeper prevented a fourth goal for Sunderland.

In the 87th minute of the game, a perfectly laid off pass from Keira Flannery found Dale who hit the ball low into the bottom corner.

The result meant that Sunderland qualified for round 4 of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
