On Wednesday morning, we covered claims from Italy which stated Sunderland are ahead of Real Betis in the race to sign AS Roma’s Enzo Le Fée in the winter market.

Later that day, Roma Giallorossa reported the two clubs are set to finalise the deal for the midfielder on loan with an obligation to buy if Sunderland were to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Thursday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport states Sunderland have closed the deal with Roma and provide more updates on the 24-year-old’s impending move to the Stadium of Light.

The deal is so advanced that Le Fée will carry out ‘medical tests today’ with the English club.

Régis Le Bris previously managed the Frenchman at FC Lorient and was pushing the Black Cats to close the deal.

Gazzetta add the Championship side have to pay €23m to make the player’s loan deal permanent if they return to the top division. They are currently fourth in the table, three points behind leaders Leeds United and two behind second placed Burnley.

Last summer, Le Fée arrived at Roma from Stade Rennais and made 10 appearances for the Italian club this season. The player will now start a ‘new life’ at Sunderland under Le Bris’ orders.
