It’s been something of an up and down season so far for Ange Postecoglou’s side, and there’ll be hope of finding some good consistency following the victory over the Hammers.
After the match, Cristian Romero spoke to the Argentine media and the conversation, as ever, ended up turning to the current fortunes of the national team.
Angel Di Maria has recently retired from international football, in a decision which came as a surprise to many. The Tottenham defender was asked about his compatriot, and was full of praise for the current Benfica player.
Romero has learned the art of dedication from Di Maria, and has picked up tips from the way he approaches the game.
Record quote the Spurs man as saying: “Fideo, for us Argentines, is one of the legends of our football that, fortunately, we continue to appreciate because he continues to play in Europe. He left the national team and we miss him a lot, but he left a great legacy for us, the young people.
“"The truth is that he never gives up. He has a habit of trying all the time and he left that mark on all of us. He deserves the best, for himself and his family, because he has a humility that makes him even greater.”
