West Ham United are hoping to be active in the transfer window this month as they look to back their new manager Graham Potter.
The East London club have been targeting a striker this month with both Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug unavailable.
Potter made a strong start to life at the London Stadium as he won his first Premier League game in charge of West Ham by beating Fulham 3-2.
The Hammers will be eager to make a success of their new project under the 49-year-old and hand him the tools he needs to be a success.
Graham Potter keen for West Ham to sign a midfielder
Graham Potter is keen for West Ham United to sign a deep-lying technical midfielder this month, according to the Guardian.
Potter selected a midfield duo of Guido Rodriguez and Edson Alvarez for the win over Fulham, but he wants to add some much-needed steel to the centre of the park.
There have been some question marks over Rodriguez’s signing this season, meanwhile, Alvarez is being linked with a move to AS Monaco this month.
TBR Football reported earlier this month that a midfielder West Ham wanted was Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka, although he is currently valued at £40 million and is not a ‘deep-lying midfielder’.
In terms of a striker, their hunt has led them to Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz, while Evan Ferguson, Taiwo Awoniyi and Andre Silva have all been linked.
The Hammers could raise funds for both positions as they are looking to sell Luis Guilherme less than a year after he arrived from Palmeiras.
West Ham hand Graham Potter transfer power
The report from the Guardian adds that the Premier League club have handed Potter a big say on transfers this month.
The former Chelsea and Brighton boss will now work closely with the club’s technical director, Tim Steidten, in their search for a new striker and midfielder.
