Tom Cleverley has decided on a change to Watford’s senior coaching team, adding former Hornets’ defender Paul Robinson to his staff.

First-Team Lead Coach Javier Pereira has left the club with immediate effect, and Robinson got started straight away this morning as he takes up the position of Assistant Coach.

‘Robbo’ will need no introduction to long-serving Golden Boys’ supporters; an original boy-done-good story saw him represent his home-town club on over 250 occasions after progressing through the club’s youth ranks in the mid-1990s.

Watford-born Robinson played for five clubs across England’s top two divisions, finishing his career with Birmingham City in 2018 after having also represented West Bromwich Albion, Bolton Wanderers and Leeds United on loan – while also earning England Under-21 caps while with the Hornets.

The 45-year-old, part of Graham Taylor’s double-promotion-winning squad, featured across eight different seasons in Watford’s senior ranks, having made his debut nearly 28 years ago against Saturday’s opponents Luton Town.

His first coaching role was at Blues, staying at St Andrew’s after retirement. A spell at Millwall followed, working with Gary Rowett whom he rejoined at Birmingham towards the end of last term as the club made a late-season managerial change to bid for survival.
