Ryan Porteous praised the impact made by Paul Robinson after the Hornets recorded their fourth clean sheet in a row at The Vic.

Today’s 0-0 draw with Queens Park Rangers means Watford have not conceded on home turf since Middlesbrough found the net on October 5.

Golden Boys legend Robinson re-joined the club as Assistant Coach on October 16, with the former defender given a remit to make things more solid at the back.

“Since Robbo’s come in, I think he’s helped massively,” Porteous said to watfordfc.com.

“He does a lot of individual work with the boys, and he’s solidified us back there.”

Scottish centre-back Porteous was named Man of the Match against the Hoops but he was quick to praise goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann, who pulled off a stunning save from Žan Celar to keep things goalless at half-time.

“When you’ve got a keeper like Bachmann making saves like he did today, then we’re always going to have half a chance of keeping a clean sheet,” he added.

“That save in the first half, it’s not the first time he’s done it this season.

“It’s probably his third or fourth world-class save this season and we’re lucky to have him.”

Porteous said the overriding emotion in the dressing room was “frustration” after the Hornets failed to find their best until after the break.

“It’s probably another game that we’ve lost 45 minutes in the first half through a poor performance,” he admitted.

“Tom [Cleverley] dug us out at half-time and said it wasn’t good enough.

“We are a team that is always going to try and win games at home, you could see that at the end where we were exposed at the back, but we’re going to have these days where we’re going to feel frustrated.”
