Preview: Cleverley On Away Form & Plymouth Argyle
Today at 08:08 AM
Tom Cleverley believes Watford are moving in the right direction when it comes to their away form.
The Hornets have won just two of their eight league matches away from Vicarage Road this season, and are back on the road to face Plymouth Argyle this evening (8pm KO).
This presents another tough test for the Golden Boys, with the Pilgrims losing just once at Home Park this season, picking up 14 of their 16 points at their home stadium.
Cleverley is happy with the recent upturn in Watford’s away performances, but knows there is still work to be done on their travels.
Speaking ahead of tonight’s clash, he said: “The last three away games have been positive.
“I thought at Leeds we were excellent, apart from the first 15 minutes.
“Then we won at Sheffield Wednesday but were flat in the game against Swansea. We’re competitive away from home now.
“We just need to turn that competitive spirit into results, but it's certainly much better than it was.”
Cleverley knows a strong performance is required if Watford are to secure a third win on the road, with ex-Manchester United and England teammate Wayne Rooney’s team possessing genuine quality.
“Plymouth are missing [Ibrahim] Cissoko, who is an exciting player, but with [Morgan] Whittaker they've got one of the real quality players of the league,” said the Head Coach.
“It's our job to keep them quiet.”
