Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has opted to wind down his career in the United States after joining Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls as a Designated Player.
The Cameroon international has been without a club since he left Bayern Munich at the end of his contract in July, bringing to a close a successful four-year stay at the Allianz Arena.
Choupo-Moting won the last of his three Bundesliga titles in 2022-23 and finished with a record of 38 goals and 13 assists in 122 appearances across all competitions for Bayern.
The 35-year-old striker has signed a two-year contract withe the Red Bulls, who have an option to extend for another 12 months through to 2027.
His time with the Indomitable Lions could be drawing to a close as he won the last of his 73 caps against Burundi on 9 December 2023 and has only been included in the squad once this year.
“We are excited to add a player of Maxim’s caliber to our roster,” Metros Head of Sport Jochen Schneider told the club’s official website.
“Maxim is a great player, a winner and his experience in Europe’s top leagues will be greatly important to our club in 2025 and beyond.”
Red Bulls head coach Sandro Schwarz added: “Maxim is a strong forward that will bring a lot of experience and leadership to our club.
“He will be a great addition to our roster, and we are looking forward to seeing him on the pitch at Sports Illustrated Stadium.”
