Motsepe reveals his objectives after re-elected CAF President unopposed

South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe has been re-elected unopposed as President of the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) for a second four-year term.

This was announced at the 14th CAF Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday, extending his leadership of the organisation until 2029.

The Mamelodi Sundowns owner’s unopposed re-election reflects both confidence in his leadership and the desire to see him elevate African football to new heights.

"I was in Rwanda recently for a new stadium, and I was in Kenya, in Uganda, in Tanzania," Motsepe told the reporters.

"New stadiums are being built because governments are beginning to recognize that football is an important part of the development and growth of a country."

"Many of the heads of state I meet, they say to me. Whatever money we have, we have got to pay back our loans,” he revealed.

“We love football but we have to ask ourselves should we take the money to build a stadium or build a hospital or build a clinic or spend more on education?

"There is a love for football but the support of the government is not as strong as it can be. And it is not because the governments don't love football.”

Motsepe also retained his $300,000-a-year position as a vice president at FIFA and will work along with the organisation’s president Gianni Infantino.
