Osimhen: 'We can't let it happen again'

Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen believes that the Super Eagles have no choice but to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after missing out on the tournament three years ago.

The prolific goal scorer expressed that Nigeria are desperate to qualify for the upcoming World Cup following their poor start to life in Group C. As it stands, Nigeria are 5th in their group and amassed just three points after four matches played so far.

Now facing an uphill battle to qualify for the keenly anticipated tournament, Osimhen mentioned that he wants to end his career knowing that he played at the World Cup.

“It’s a dream of every footballer to play at the World Cup and with our situation in the group I am desperate, like other players, to make it to the 2026 tournament,” Osimhen told BBC Sport Africa.

“We suffered a big disappointment in 2022 and we simply can’t let it happen again to us, the country and our generation.

“You don’t want to finish your career with the regrets of not playing at the World Cup. That is not what I want for myself.”
