It was announced last night that Nottingham Forest defender Murillo has penned a new long-term contract with the football club.

Murillo was courted by Premier League clubs in the summer. However, Forest have now managed to persuade their player to remain at the City Ground, with the Reds third in the Premier League.

Forest have kicked on this season, with Murillo kicking on alongside Nikola Milenkovic. Together, the pair have helped the Reds keep more clean sheets during 2024/25 and the team are thriving.

Manchester City wanted Murillo before he signed for Forest for £10.6 million. Right now, the Citizens might be wishing they’d chosen to take the plunge, with the Brazilian now worth an absolute fortune.

Morgan Gibbs-White and Anthony Elanga react to Murillo news

It seems as though this is a popular decision in the dressing room. Murillo is only 22-years-old and he’s taken very well to English football since making his debut in October 2023.

He’s been virtually ever-present in the Premier League – missing a single game against Everton in December – and it’s no surprise that the world’s best clubs were courting him.

After the news was announced last night, Morgan Gibbs-White and Anthony Elanga reacted when the club’s official media team put the announcement on Instagram.

Gibbs-White went first and said: “About time”, with Elanga simply posting the word “Monstro”, with an emoji where love hearts are in place of eyes.

Murillo stats for Nottingham Forest 2024/25

It’s been brilliant to watch Murillo kick on this season. Last season he was good but there were some doubts over certain aspects of his game.

Forest conceded a lot of goals last season. Set pieces proved a real kryptonite for the Reds and Murillo bore the brunt of some criticism in that sense.

Murillo and Milenkovic complement each other nicely though. The uncompromising Serbian player has taken the Brazilian under his wing and clearly he’s better for it.

It’s brilliant that Forest have tied him down until 2029. Nobody is under any illusions that he will stay at the club that long but qualifying for Europe should at least give the Reds a chance to keep Murillo next season.
