Report: Nottingham Forest forced into a big decision after unexpected Alex Moreno twist

Nottingham Forest signed Alex Moreno on loan from Aston Villa during the summer transfer window in a deal that will officially run until the end of the season.
Moreno was a target for Forest in the summer of 2022. On that occasion, he opted to remain at Real Betis before signing for Aston Villa six months later to hand the Reds a bit of a blow.
Last summer, however, with Forest now more established in the Premier League, Moreno was happy to join the club and has become a bit of a fan favourite.
When he initially arrived at the club, he was thrust into the left-back position pretty much from the off. He has made 14 appearances in total including one in each cup competition.
Moreno hasn’t started a Premier League game since December against Manchester City when Forest last lost a game and now some rumours are doing the rounds on his future.
Real Betis linked with emotional move for Alex Moreno
It’s claimed by Spanish journalist Samuel Silva that Betis are keen to sign Moreno on loan before the transfer window closes in February.
Forest would need to send him back to Villa for that to take place. Or, alternatively, Villa would have to recall him if they were unsatisfied with his amount of game time.
Moreno is proving a very useful option for Forest to have in their squad. Neco Williams is keeping him out of the team at the moment but the time will come for the left-footed player again.
It would leave Forest a little bit short of full-backs should Moreno leave this month and although he’s not playing right now, there are still plenty of games left to play.
Forest unlikely to buy Moreno
The summer could see Moreno in a bit of limbo. Forest will likely go in search of a younger option at left-back, whilst Villa have Lucas Digne and Ian Maatsen competing for a place in the team.
That could see Moreno in need of a club and it’s clear there is still a player in there. Alex Moreno is often the man fist-pumping the fans after a Forest win and he looks like a good character.
As for this month, it would be risky if Forest let Moreno go. The beauty of the squad right now is that there are options from the bench and letting the Spaniard go back to Villa would weaken the team in that sense.
