Report: £8m player banished from training amid Nottingham Forest interest

Although Nottingham Forest want a quieter transfer window this January, the club has already been linked with a host of players.
For Forest, it’s a case of building on what Nuno Espirito Santo has at his disposal. The Reds have used just 23 players so far during 2024/25 and it appears the Forest head coach likes to work with a streamlined squad.
Evangelos Marinakis would dearly like to sign a new forward. Forest have today been linked with Yoane Wissa with the Reds seeing an opening offer rejected by Brentford and a deal looking unlikely this month.
Igor Jesus has been linked with a move to Forest too. The Botafogo striker scored 25 goals during the 2024 campaign as the Brazilian outfit won the title for the first time in their history and Europe beckons for him.
It might not be a centre-forward that Forest signs. Attackers in general are being looked at and now another player looks to be edging closer to leaving his current club before the window closes.
Forest-linked Marcus Edwards now training away from Sporting CP first-team
Forest were linked with Edwards earlier this month. The player once compared to Lionel Messi is with Sporting CP but has fallen down the pecking order under new boss Rui Borges.
It’s claimed that Forest can sign Edwards for just £8 million this month. Now, according to A Bola in Portugal, there is a sense that the Reds have had the biggest green light yet to go and land him.
Edwards hasn’t endeared himself to Borges at all since he replaced Manchester United-bound Ruben Amorim. In fact, it’s claimed that he’s now training away from the senior squad, with Sporting ready to accept bids.
The former Tottenham youngster had made waves in Portugal. He scored 20 goals in a few seasons with Vitoria before earning a move to Sporting and has now claimed 50 goal contributions for them.
Edwards would be very useful Forest signing
This could prove to be a very attractive signing indeed. Edwards is not only a player who at 26 fits the profile of a Reds signing but he’s also left-footed and that would bring some balance.
Edwards might have lost his way a bit with Sporting but he does still have three goals to his name and perhaps at this stage of his career the time is right for him to make a return to England.
The player would have to prove himself in the Premier League. However, he does look like the type who could compliment the current wingers nicely, with Edwards loving to take on the opposition.
Forest have been savvy in the market during recent windows. If Edwards can be obtained for just £8 million it would feel like a bit of a risk-free deal and one that would come with a lot to like about it.
