Nottingham Forest look to be making an ambitious swoop to sign Wolves forward Matheus Cunha before the transfer window closes.

It’s absolutely no secret that Evangelos Marinakis wants a striker at Forest. The Reds tried – and failed – to land one in the summer to provide competition for Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi during 2024/25.

On Tuesday, Forest were linked with Yoane Wissa. The Brentford talisman has been in wonderful goalscoring form this season, scoring 11 times for the Bees and is thriving under Thomas Frank.

Now, Forest are eyeing Cunha too. Given his stained relationship with Wolves and the fact he’s stalling over a new deal, perhaps there is more chance of turning the Brazilian’s head before the window closes.

How much Forest will have to pay for Matheus Cunha

This is always going to be the million-dollar question, no pun intended! The January window is notoriously hard to shop in and every club out there right now is keen to add goals to their team.

Cunha isn’t going to come cheap – especially if he joins a divisional rival this month. The 25-year-old has bagged 10 goals in 22 appearances during 2024/25 and Wolves are fighting to stay in the Premier League.

Transfer journalist Ben Jacobs has shared some information on the situation on social media. He believes that it might take around £80 million to prise Cunha away from Molineux this month.

That does seem like a stretch from a Wolves perspective. If the forward does suggest to the club he wants to leave, they may be forced to accept a bid rather than keep an unhappy player around in a relegation battle.

This would be a pretty good signing from a Forest perspective. Cunha has been largely considered as the main man at Wolves since he signed for the club and he’d need no time to settle in at Forest.

The Reds could do with another striker before the window closes. Faith in Taiwo Awoniyi looks in short supply and perhaps it’s time the club looked towards another option this month.

Cunha ticks a lot of boxes for Forest. He can operate in a number of positions in the final third and he has more than proved himself as a competent Premier League player.

If the fee is £80 million this month, then Forest will have no chance. However, it’s hard to imagine that being accurate and hopefully, the Reds can prepare a concrete bid to try and tempt Cunha.
