Report: Nottingham Forest now want player who famously mocked Morgan Gibbs-White in shock turn

Nottingham Forest are going to be cranking up their efforts to sign new players ahead of the transfer window slamming shut in early February.
Evangelos Marinakis would dearly like to bring a striker to Trentside. With that in mind, the vast majority of the links have been to attacking players since the window reopened at the start of the month.
Igor Jesus has been linked with Forest from Botafogo. Another Brazilian liked by Forest is Yuri Alberto but both of those players would be unproven and perhaps the Reds have bigger fish to fry now.
Forest were rejected by Santiago Gimenez in the summer and he’s unlikely to be on the move. As a result, players are being looked at domestically with Forest feeling they can now enter the race for Premier League players.
Yoane Wissa was linked with Forest earlier this week. He’s scored 11 goals in the Premier League for Brentford this season and has largely been a revelation since joining the club from Lorient.
Now, another name is doing the rounds and it’s fair to say that it’s a good one that should take the fancy of the club’s supporters.
Nottingham Forest want Wolves star Matheus Cunha
According to the Daily Mail, Forest have a new top target for the month and it’s the Wolves contract rebel, Cunha, with some suggestions that he might turn his back on the new contract he’s been offered at Molineux.
The Brazilian performer was all set to sign a new deal some weeks ago to give Wolves a bit of security and preserve his transfer fee with bigger clubs snooping around him.
Wolves are in grave danger of relegation this season. Gary O’Neil was sacked a few weeks ago and although the team have looked more organised under Vitor Pereira, the results haven’t reflected it.
On Monday, Wolves were thrashed 3-1 at Chelsea. After the game, Cunha headed straight down the tunnel and came in for some criticism for not applauding the travelling supporters.
Cunha, 25, has been in fine form this season. Despite Wolves’ struggles, he’s bagged 10 goals and claimed four assists with Forest now very keen to bring him to the City Ground.
Cunha famously mocked Morgan Gibbs-White
In total honesty, this was brushed off as a bit of banter. During a 2-2 draw with Wolves at the back end of last season, both Gibbs-White and Cunha were on the wind-up.
It all stretched back to Forest beating Wolves on penalties in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup back in 2022/23 when Gibbs-White scored and then placed his fingers in his ears in front of the away fans.
Cunha followed suit after scoring his penalty and the Brazilian repeated that act when he scored in the 2-2 draw a season later with Gibbs-White pulling out his trademark when he scored in the game.
After that game, Cunha said: “He’s a friend of mine. He’s a really good guy, a really good guy. Football is entertainment, and we showed that today, but as a team we’re very frustrated. He’s a great player.”
Gibbs-White never got the chance to play alongside Cunha at Wolves. It looks obvious that the two could do a job together at Forest, however, and it will be fascinating to see if they get the chance.
