Eddie Howe has revealed that Alexander Isak will miss Newcastle United’s FA Cup clash against Bromley through injury.

Isak is arguably one of the best strikers in the world right now, having recorded 19 goals and five assists in 28 appearances for club and country this season.

The Swede’s efforts have helped the Magpies to fifth in the Premier League and they have one foot in the Carabao Cup final after their 2-0 win at Arsenal last Tuesday.

He scored the opener in the semi-final first-leg at the Emirates, ironic given that the Gunners have long-been linked with signing the forward who is valued at around £150million.

But there were concerning scenes during that match as Isak was subbed off after 65 minutes, leading to concerns that he had suffered an injury blow.

Howe has now confirmed that the 25-year-old will miss Saturday’s cup clash against League Two side Bromley but has not suffered a ‘serious injury’.

‘We think he's pretty good. He is seeing his physio at the moment,’ the manager said in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

‘I've given him a couple of days rest, but he is in a good place and will report back tomorrow [when] I will have a good look at him.

‘It doesn't look like a serious injury – not from the initial assessments. But fingers crossed.

‘We would've probably involved him in this game in some way, but with what has happened, he'd be given this game to rest and get himself right for the future schedule that we have.’

Like most clubs, Newcastle have a congested fixture list with Premier League clashes against Wolves, Bournemouth, Southampton and Fulham before the second-leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal.

As mentioned, Isak has been linked with a transfer but Howe insists he and his teammates will stay at St. James’ Park for now, adding: ‘I said at the start on the talk of January that we didn't want to focus on any outgoings.

‘It's not a month for me to destabilise anything. It's to try and keep the harmony of the group. The feeling in the group is really strong at the moment, as you can imagine.’
