'Electric' striker who Newcastle are in talks to sign just scored a brilliant winner to beat Real Madrid

Ahead of travelling to Everton on the weekend, Eddie Howe is faced with the prospect of having neither of his first choice strikers available.

Newcastle have already been without Callum Wilson owing to injury and now Alexander Isak has also suffered a toe issue.

Isak won't be involved for Sweden over the upcoming international break and will seemingly rest until club football returns.

Howe has William Osula available, but it would seem that Anthony Gordon will be preferred in a central role against his old side at Goodison Park.

Newcastle see Osula as a 'project player' right now, not someone they are ready to turn to in big matches.

Jonathan Davis downs Real Madrid in Champions League after Newcastle talks

That being said, Newcastle were recently in talks to sign Jonathan David, who is planning to leave Lille on a free transfer this summer.

Given his stance, the French side are keen to cash-in on the Canadian in January, but until then he's continuing as the club's go-to striker.

And after scoring 26 goals last season, the 24-year-old has already netted eight times thus.

David has five Ligue 1 goals in six games and Wednesday evening's winner against Real Madrid from the penalty spot was his first of the new-look group stage.

The 'electric' striker stepped up to take Lille's pressure penalty at the end of the first half and dispatched it into the top right corner, a brilliant finish.

As mentioned, Newcastle could probably secure David for a relatively small fee at the turn of year.

And considering that Premier League clubs are interested in Wilson, perhaps Paul Mitchell could mastermind David replacing the injury-prone 32-year-old.

Jury still out on William Osula signing

Following his minutes against AFC Wimbledon in the EFL Cup this week, Newcastle insiders are optimistic about Osula's future at the club and all he can go on to achieve.

But considering that Newcastle parted with a sizable fee to bring the Dane to Tyneside, it’s already fair to question the success of the deal.

Newcastle reportedly paid £15m to buy 21-year-old Osula, a stiff fee for a player who essentially isn't trusted to play Premier League games.

And were a player like David to arrive at St James' Park mid-season, it's hard to imagine when and where Osula's chances would ever come.
